Discover the Wonders of the Gurambai Cultural Trail

Nestled just 60 meters from the bustling Novotel, Mercure, and Ibis Darwin Airport Resort lies a hidden gem that offers a rich tapestry of cultural and natural experiences: the Gurambai Cultural Trail. This trail is more than just a scenic path; it's an immersive journey into the heart of the Top End's extraordinary beauty and the vibrant heritage of the Larrakia people.

A Gateway to Larrakia Country and Culture

The Gurambai Cultural Trail provides a unique opportunity to explore Larrakia country, home to the Traditional Owners of the Darwin region. As you walk along the 3.7 km return trail, you'll be enveloped in the serene landscapes that define the Top End—lush vegetation, diverse wildlife, and stunning vistas that paint a picture of unspoiled natural beauty.

Trail Details

The trail features four entrances, each equipped with signs that outline the estimated walking times for different sections. This ensures that you can plan your walk according to your schedule and fitness level. For your safety and comfort, we recommend bringing the following items:

Suitable shoes | Sunscreen | Hat | Water | Insect repellent

Please note that there are no water taps or toilet facilities along the walk, so it's important to come prepared.

Strong Partnerships for Environmental Health

The Gurambai Cultural Trail is a testament to strong partnerships aimed at preserving and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the area. The Airport Development Group (ADG) has partnered with the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation (LNAC) and the Rapid Creek Landcare Group to protect and maintain the environmental health of the Gurambai Creek on airport land.

ADG has invested significantly in the trail's infrastructure, including upgrades to the path, the creation of a new seating area, and a presentation stage to attract visitors and grow both cultural and environmental awareness. The Larrakia Rangers, a part of LNAC, manage and preserve the fragile ecosystems through weekly site visits. Additionally, the Rapid Creek Landcare Group, active since 1997, plays a crucial role in rehabilitating the area through volunteer efforts focused on planting, weeding, and litter collection.

The Gurambai Cultural Trail starts conveniently from the Novotel, Mercure, and Ibis Darwin Airport Resort, making it an easily accessible attraction for guests.
